Impact reporting in a charity
In recent years there has been a greater focus for charities to demonstrate the difference they are making with greater transparency on how income is raised and funds are spent on delivering the charitable purpose and running the charity. I supported a large national charity on creating a framework that would enable all communication about the charity’s strategy, objectives and activities to be cohesive and clearly articulated across the organisation. Together with key members of the senior leadership team I created a flow chart that linked the big picture of the strategy to the annual priorities through to the activities focussing on why the charity was carrying out these activities, the difference it expected to make and the difference it did make. As their audit partner we then worked together to reflect it in the statutory accounts directly linking to the costs of delivery and the funding the activities.
