De-risking financial decision making
A school had experienced financial difficulties over a number of years. I carried out a financial governance review which highlighted that there were a number of issues with the financial management of the organisation. Delegation for financial decision making was unclear, authorisation limits were not set and the financial controls were not as robust as they might have been. In addition to a number of recommendations on improving the management accounts, I created a scheme of financial delegation that clarified how financial decisions were made and evidenced. It also included levels of authority for approval that were proportionate to the size and complexity of the school.
